Brent writes:

Very pleased with another sub 100 minutes time at a truly wonderful event. Brighton at its best with lovely weather and 4,600 finishers. Start near the pier and the course runs through The Lanes and along the seafront.

Wombwell 5 mile road race – 15 February 2009

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

Paul and Bee report:

Possibly the most un-scenic course we have ever run, including our Chalvey route. The marshals defied death by standing in the middle of the road keeping the traffic away from the runners. The toilets made the cross-country facilities look palatial. Bee had a very good time despite deciding not to run at 3 o’clock in the morning. Only one hill at about 1.5 miles but a long downhill stretch to get good times. It was nice to run with different faces and vest names, even though the accents seemed a bit weird.

London Marathon Runners Coach

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

The list for names has gone up at the running club for those wishing to travel to the start in the coach.

The coach will pick up at the clubhouse at 06.15am to leave at 06.30am.

Cost will be £10.

For the return the coach will be parked in Millbank near Tate Britain where it will remain until 5pm at the latest (will leave earlier if all are back).

If you are not going to be back to the Coach by 5pm you will have to make alternative arrangements to get home.

The Coach will then drop off back at the clubhouse.

Please make sure you add your name to the list – if you won’t be at the clubhouse before then please contact Dave (chairman at datchetdashers.com) to make sure you get a place!

Bramley 10/20 miles – 15 February 2009

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Good conditions and some fantastic times – particularly Simon and Michelle setting new club records for 20 miles and Dave P knocking nearly 19 minutes off his PB! Well done to everyone else who braved the cold for the 20 mile course (Kathryn ran round the 10 miles as part of marathon training).

Wokingham cancelled

Friday, February 6th, 2009

Wokingham have announced on their website that this weekend’s race is cancelled. Further details to come on their website.

UPDATE: http://www.wokingham.gov.uk/council-meetings-democracy/news/snow/ has confirmation that the event is cancelled due to unsafe conditions

Club closed tonight (Thursday 5 February)

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

The club will be closed tonight due to the weather conditions.

Whilst the roads are virtually clear of snow and ice the pavements are still very treacherous and not safe for group running.

Keep your eyes on the Wokingham Half website for updates for their event after the inspection tomorrow, having just seen the weather forecast things are not looking very hopeful.

Training tonight (Tuesday 3 February)

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

The club will be open tonight when it is intended to bring forward next week’s hill session to this week instead of the advertised 400 team relays (Alexandra Gardens unsafe as paths still covered with snow).

We will be doing the session in Peascod Street which is clear from snow and ice.

Care will need to be taken getting to the start as there is still some snow and ice on the road to the clubhouse and the paths leading to Peascod Street.

Bupa 10,000 – would you like a charity place?

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Children Today provide grants for vital, life-changing equipment for disabled children and young people up to the age of 25 years.  We believe that the provision of specialist equipment for young people with disabilities has a direct and immediate impact on their quality of life and independence and is vital in helping them to overcome obstacles to live a life of greater freedom.

Children Today have places in the BUPA 10k Run, there is a registration fee of £50 plus a minimum sponsorship of £500 but plenty of time to raise the money as the event isn’t until 25 May. The events team at Children Today are always at hand to support our participants. If you’re interested, please email Ceri (ceri at children-today.org.uk).

[I did the inaugural race last year, lovely crowd support and good views - runners pass many of London’s famous sights, including Westminster Abbey, Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, The London Eye, Cleopatra’s Needle, Tate Gallery, Millennium Bridge, The Monument, Lloyds of London, Leadenhall Market, Bank of England, Mansion House, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Horseguards, Nelson’s Column and Admiralty Arch. Buckingham Palace acts as the backdrop to the start and finish. Click here for race details.]
